The Memorial:

 

    The purpose of this Memorial is NOT national, but LOCAL;
to commemorate those who served and
especially those who were killed in action (KIA) from

Upper Pottsgrove.

(Pennsylvania)

A special Memorial is currently located at the front of
the Pottstown Library for the sole purpose of
honoring those killed in action, totaling over 100.


 

 

The design and overall appearance of the Memorial is based on the features of several current World War II memorials.  It will be simplistic yet have an impact, and contain elements which will not only memorialize, but serve to inform the viewer.  

Features of the Memorial to note:

bulletThe main structure will consist of a wall 21 ft. long by 7 ft. high.  The top portion of the vertical face will display the 3,900 names printed in gold on bronze plaques.  At each end adjoining the wall will be a pier, 2 ft. 8 in. square by 8 ft. high, on which the history of World War II will be placed.  The main structure will be manufactured and built by Universal Concrete Products Corp.    
bulletThe History of the War will include:  the Pacific and European Theaters, The Home-front (Women in the workforce, Victory gardens, etc.) and Gold Star Mothers.
